Hawaiian - Level 1
The people of the Polynesian islands did not use the written word to communicate. Instead they used dance as a way to tell stories of the way of life, creation, honouring royalty and celebrating the gods. The Hawaiians used the swaying of their hips and graceful waving of their hands to create a Hula. The Tahitians follow the beat of the drums and use rhythmic movements of the hips to dance the Ori. In this class, you will learn the foundational moves of both the Hula and Tahitian dance and complete choreographies.
Hawaiian - Level 2
Taking the basic hula a tahitian steps to the next level using more complex choreographies and formations, as well as, using implements to enhance the rhythmic and visual aspects of the dance, such as the pu'ili, ipu, uli uli, ili ili, or kala au. Prior knowledge of Hawaiian and Tahitian basics recommended, but not essential.
